Susan L. Hart
M.A., LPC, NCC
Susan Hart has worked as a professional counselor since 1994. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Samford University and a Master’s degree in Counseling from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Soon after graduating from UAB, Susan was hired as staff counselor at the UAB Counseling & Wellness Center. Two years later she was promoted to the position of Director. In her 19 years of work at UAB her responsibilities included teaching, training, program development and administration, as well as providing individual and group counseling. Susan is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Counselor Supervisor and she has also been involved in the training over 30 Masters-level interns.
Susan began her dedication to helping others as a volunteer with an international Christian training and community relief program. During these years she lived in Cyprus, Israel, Switzerland, and Canada and traveled extensively in more than 10 other countries. Throughout her life, Susan has resided in four states, attended six different universities, studied five languages. She also trained with the American Red Cross as a Mental Health Disaster Relief Volunteer…skills she used assisting locally with those who were negatively affected and displaced by Hurricane Katrina.
Susan has been with Trinity Counseling since 1999. During this time she has developed mental health programs, provided licensure supervision, and offered group and individual counseling. Susan has a psychodynamic approach and provides therapeutic interventions for clients who are coping with depression, anxiety, and trauma. For five years she was involved with Brené Brown’s Daring Way™ program as a Certified Facilitator. In 2019 she became the first practitioner in Alabama to earn the credential as a Certified Lifespan Integration Therapist. This therapeutic specialty has become Susan’s primary focus in counseling.
Ultimately, Susan sees her counseling mission as the embodiment of her lifelong calling to enhance the quality of life around her. She believes she has been called to “share good news, bind up the brokenhearted, to offer a message of genuine freedom... and to comfort those who mourn…” (Isaiah 61). Or, simply said, “Helping others live well.”
